Description
Here's a native selection that adds an extra dash of brightness to even the sunniest locale. The straight species, Bouteloua gracilis, is known as blue grama grass for its glaucous foliage and distinctive, petite purple blooms. ‘Blonde Ambition’ ups the wattage with a showy mane of 2” long chartreuse blooms, held at a jaunty angle on stiff stems. In constant motion in even the slightest breeze, these cheerful pennants mature to persistent pale blonde seed heads. ‘Blonde Ambition’ hails from the harsh wilds of the American Southwest, where it was carefully selected and re-selected for outstanding texture and color. Its slender, pale blue-green foliage forms a graceful array up to 24 inches tall and wide. ‘Blonde Ambition’ even stands tough in the snow for months of interest. A hardy grass, it performs brilliantly far from its original desert domain. No wonder it’s an award-winner! Landscapers can deploy it as a specimen, or in impressive sparkling masses.
